July 17, 2025

The 6th Joint Working Group Japan-Indonesia, titled “Strengthening Cooperation in Facing Global Uncertainties,” was held at Hasanuddin University (Makassar) in Indonesia from July 10 (Thu) to 11 (Fri), 2025. Vice President Toru Aoyama attended the conference.

This conference is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Indonesia, and this was the sixth meeting following the fifth meeting held at Hiroshima University in October 2019, after a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference aimed to promote educational and research exchanges as well as industry-academia collaboration between Japan and Indonesia. The 6th conference saw the participation of 32 public and private universities from Japan and 50 universities from Indonesia. Diverse presentations and discussions took place on themes such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strategic international collaboration.

Traditional dance from Makassar was performed at the opening ceremony.
A total of 82 universities from Japan and Indonesia participated and exchanged ideas (Vice President Aoyama is wearing a bright yellow batik shirt in the center of the photo).
